I have a flashed XFX HD 5770 which works very well but only one of the DVI ports works. XFXGPUs can also be used but be warned they often are non-reference. You can also quite safely power a HD 5770 using the motherboard Mini 6pin to 6 pin cable, absolutely no need for external power unless you have another GPU in the cMP as well Having said that, the HD 5770s 6 pin socket MUST be powered. I also had an HD 5770 running in this 2,1 cMP so the 2008 cMP should be more than OK. I did try the 5770, power it externally and successfully boot in a hackintosh.
